Louisiana's 2025 medians are $91,250 a year for a semi-private room (about $250 a day) and $96,908 for a private room (about $266 a day); Medicare covers short skilled stays and Louisiana Medicaid covers long stays for residents who qualify.

How do I compare nursing homes?

Each certified home in the six parishes has its own page with CMS data.

What happens to nursing home residents during a hurricane?

Each certified nursing home follows its federal emergency plan, either sheltering in place with alternate power or evacuating residents to a host facility, and families should ask in advance which it plans for and where residents would go.

Ask how the home keeps residents cool if power fails, how medications and records travel, and how families are told when residents move. The Health Standards Section surveys these plans for CMS.

Can a nursing home discharge a resident?

Only for reasons federal rules allow, such as needs the home cannot meet, improved health, safety risks to others or non-payment, with written notice and a right to appeal.
