Do agencies outside Orleans Parish serve New Orleans?

Yes: most of the region's home health and hospice offices are in Metairie, Gretna and Covington, and they routinely serve New Orleans addresses, so the full roster of 54 agencies is the better list to call from.

Adult day health care is different: participants travel to the center, so location matters, and Orleans Parish holds most of the region's licensed centers. Ask each center about its transportation area, its hours and whether it serves participants with dementia, and ask a home health agency which ZIP codes its nurses cover before the first visit is booked.

How do New Orleans families pay for home health and hospice?

Medicare pays for intermittent skilled home health and for hospice when the doctor certifies eligibility; Louisiana Medicaid's LT-PCS and Community Choices Waiver pay for personal care at home for people who qualify; adult day health care can be paid through the ADHC Waiver.

See LT-PCS and the Community Choices Waiver.
