CareScout 2025 Cost of Care Survey, Louisiana results (released March 2, 2026). Monthly, hourly and daily figures are our arithmetic from CareScout's published annual medians (annual / 12; home care annual / 2,288 hours; adult day annual / 260 days; nursing home annual / 365).
A median is the middle price, not a typical bill. Large Level 3 buildings in Uptown New Orleans, Metairie and Covington often price above it, and small Level 1 and Level 2 homes often price below it, sometimes with shared rooms. Most providers charge a base rent plus a care level or service package, so ask for the full monthly total at your parent's assessed level.
Is there a New Orleans-specific cost figure?
No: CareScout's Louisiana release publishes statewide medians only, with no New Orleans or other metro figure and no memory care median, so any website quoting a precise “New Orleans average” is estimating.
The practical substitute is a written quote. Ask every provider on your shortlist for its current rate sheet, the cost of each care level, the fee for medication management, any community or move-in fee, and its disaster-fee formula. Three quotes for the same assessed needs tell you more about the local market than any average.
How much does a nursing home cost in Louisiana?
Louisiana's 2025 median is $91,250 a year for a semi-private nursing home room, about $250 a day, and $96,908 for a private room, about $266 a day, both among the lowest in the country (46th and 45th of the states).
Medicare pays for short skilled nursing stays after a qualifying hospital admission; Louisiana Medicaid pays for long stays for residents who qualify. A family paying privately should ask what the daily rate includes, since therapy, some medications and supplies can be billed separately.
How much does home care cost in Louisiana?
Non-medical home care in Louisiana had a 2025 median of $59,488 a year for 44 hours a week, about $26 an hour by our arithmetic, after an 18% jump from 2024, the largest increase of any Louisiana care type in the survey.
| Paid hours per week | Monthly home care at $26/hour | Versus assisted living median ($5,163) |
|---|---|---|
| 10 | $1,127 | less |
| 20 | $2,253 | less |
| 30 | $3,380 | less |
| 40 | $4,507 | less |
| 44 | $4,957 | less |
| 50 | $5,633 | more |
| 60 | $6,760 | more |
| 84 | $9,464 | more |
| 168 | $18,928 | more |
The table shows why home care can cost more than assisted living once a parent needs help for more than about 45 hours a week, and why round-the-clock care at home is out of reach for most families without public help. Louisiana Medicaid's LT-PCS and Community Choices Waiver can pay for some in-home personal care for people who qualify.
How much does adult day health care cost in Louisiana?
Adult day health care had a Louisiana median of $22,958 a year in 2025 for five days a week, about $88 a day, slightly under the U.S. median of $24,700.
Adult day health care centers in Louisiana are licensed by LDH and provide health monitoring, medication help, meals, activities and often transportation. They are a common way to keep a working caregiver employed. LDH's October 2026 report lists 10 licensed adult day health care centers in the six parishes, 6 of them in Orleans Parish. The ADHC Waiver and the Community Choices Waiver can pay for attendance for people who qualify.
